1920s Apollo Divided Glass Vanity Candy Box Ornate Ormolu Frame Lid Vintage~Nice
Very vintage, now almost antique, early 1920s divided glass vanity or candy dish box in an ornate ormolu metal frame w/swags of roses & lid.Marked for Apollo. Apollo was a very popular, sophisticated company that had ornate vanity and desk and tableware items made for them to their designs, by various companies, they did not manufacture themselves.The glass insert was called a henna color. The metal was once gold plated.Ormolu is the gilding technique of applying finely ground, high-carat goldmercury amalgam to a bronze object. The lid shows wear common to these pieces. When the gold plating wore away, the base metal beneath turned dark w/exposure to air. If you look at the lid interior you can see the original color.The glass insert is in excellent preowned condition w/no damage.
