Tsutomu Nihei
Born in 1971 in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. Studied architecture in high school, worked as a site supervisor after graduation, and spent a year living in New York. Upon returning to Japan, he began drawing manga seriously. In 1995, he won the special award by Tsutomu Nihei at the Afternoon Seasonal Competition for "BLAME." After working as an assistant to Tsutomu Takahashi, he started the serialization of "BLAME!" in Monthly Afternoon (Kodansha) in 1997. His style of minimal dialogue and meticulous background details gained popularity. From 2009 to 2016, he serialized "Knights of Sidonia" in Monthly Afternoon. In 2015, he won the Kodansha Manga Award for "Knights of Sidonia." The series was also adapted into a television anime. Since 2017, he has been serializing "Aposimz" in Monthly Shonen Sirius.
